There has been a lot of movement in the wide receiver corps for the Dallas Cowboys in the past two weeks. First, the front office decided to trade WR1 Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns. Then, the team lost Cedrick Wilson in free agency after he landed himself a three-year deal with the Miami Dolphins. The Cowboys then decided that keeping currently injured wide receiver Michael Gallup on a five-year, $57.5 million contract was the best choice. To try and fill the gaps, Dallas signed former Steelers WR James Washington to an unexciting one-year deal last Friday.

Essentially, all of these moves leave soon-to-be third-year receiver, CeeDee Lamb, as WR1 for the start of 2022. The Oklahoma product had 74 receptions for 935 yards in his rookie year. Last year, he had 79 receptions for 1,102 yards and six touchdowns.

Are the Cowboys worried the young gun can handle the role? Quarterback Dak Prescott certainly isn’t. In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, Prescott said that while he is sad to see Cooper and Wilson go, he is excited for the future of the Cowboys. The QB believes Lamb will be a great replacement for Cooper.

“I know he’s already doing the things he needs to do that are necessary to have a great season,” Prescott said.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has no doubt that WR CeeDee Lamb can replace former Dallas WR Amari Cooper

The front office made an incredibly controversial move when they chose to trade Cooper. Now, especially with Gallup’s recovery timeline still up in the air, all eyes are on Lamb. The man at the helm sees no issue with that:

"“Yeah, there’s no doubt he is (ready to replace Cooper as the team’s No. 1 receiver),’’ Prescott said. “I think that’s the best part of that move. You look at a guy like CeeDee and what he’s done in his first two years, it’s exciting. He hasn’t really scratched the surface. Just for him to be the one, to be the main guy, I know he’s going to be ready for it."

It will be interesting to see if the Cowboys make additional moves at wide receiver ahead of the 2022 season. While Washington certainly adds depth, he isn’t a star wideout. Will the Cowboys make any additional offseason signings? Will they take a receiver in the draft? Prescott having faith in Lamb is nice, but Lamb can’t do it alone. Even if Gallup is healthy for game one, which isn’t guaranteed, the team will need a solid WR3.
