3. Jonathan Garibay, K, Texas Tech
Thankfully, Cowboys Nation no longer needs to hold their breath every time the team needs to kick an extra point in 2022. Greg Zuerlein is gone, but his absence hasn’t quite been filled. Back in February, the team signed Chris Naggar to a Futures/Reserve contract, but he is very raw.
This gives Texas Tech’s record-breaking kicker a chance to compete with Naggar for a starting spot. Unlike Greg the Leg, Garibay was extremely accurate in 2021, missing only one field goal and one PAT during the season. Luckily for Garibay, he will likely only have one player to beat out for a chance on the roster. The problem is that, unlike other positions, there really isn’t a depth chart when it comes to kickers. Most teams only have one on the roster during the season.
The Cowboys have a kicker, agreeing to a deal with Texas Tech’s Jonathan Garibay. He went 15-of-16 on FG tries last year and made a 62-yarder to beat Iowa State. He was 49-of-50 on PATs. Cowboys didn’t draft a kicker and only have Chris Naggar on roster.

The Texas Tech product has also proven his leg power. Not only has he been accurate from a variety of distances, but his 62-yard game-winning field goal against Iowa State broke several records. It was the longest game-winning FG in FBS history to be made with under 60 seconds to go in a game, the longest field goal made in the Big 12 since 1999, and helped him break a school record for his 13th made field goal in a row.
The Cowboys need a reliable kicker. If Garibay can be what he was at Texas Tech in the NFL, the Cowboys will have scored big time with this undrafted free agent.
