The 2022 NFL Draft is complete and the Dallas Cowboys used their day three picks to add more depth pieces and fill needs. The Cowboys left Saturday with a good group of players, hoping to find at least one that can make a significant impact next season. The front office selected players from a variety of positions who they hope will help make an impact in Dallas in the future.

The Cowboys have had success in recent years drafting on Day 3. Did they find their next Dak Prescott, Tony Pollard, Anthony Brown, or Cedrick Wilson in the final rounds? We certainly hope so. The Cowboys came into his draft with nine picks and used all of them. No trades were made, and the front office stuck with their prospect favorites rather than drafting the best player available.

So, who did they add? Were they good choices? Let’s take a look.

1. Fourth-Round (129th overall): Jake Ferguson, Tight End, Wisconsin

Grade: B-

The Cowboys finally addressed another one of their needs by drafting a tight end. Jake Ferguson from Wisconsin is another prototypical Cowboys tight end. He has good hands and is a solid route runner.

Ferguson should slide right in behind Dalton Schultz and be a solid backup in his first season. The former Badger can also contribute to special teams. The Cowboys have always had an affinity for drafting Wisconsin players. I even projected Dallas would take Ferguson in my mock draft.

Could the Cowboys have waited a round to grab Ferguson? Probably. But once again they got one of their guys and his in-line blocking ability most likely separated him from other tight-end prospects. The Cowboys added Dalton Schultz in the fourth round in 2018, and this year they added another fourth-round tight end who can hopefully make a similar impact on the franchise in the future.
