2. America’s Team Takes a Running Back on Day 2

Okay, calm down everyone. Let’s talk this one through. It’s a bold prediction for a reason, and there’s a good chance it doesn’t happen. Or is there?

With the decline of former 2016 fourth-overall pick Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys may look to add another back to take over for Elliott since the team has an out in his contract after this upcoming season. Due to injury concerns and an overall decline in production, the team may exercise that after the season.

Another reason why the team may consider adding a running back earlier in this draft is that Tony Pollard’s contract ends after next season. If he continues progressing this year, the Cowboys may reconsider paying a running back big money after what happened with Zeke. If Pollard ends up not showing much, the team may reach for a running back in 2023 instead.

So, why not get one in 2022 so you don’t have to worry about it next season? This running back class is deep with no consensus RB1. There are high production workhorses in Michigan State’s Kenneth Walker III and Iowa State’s Breece Hall that could fall anywhere from late in Round 1 to early in Round 3. There are also solid prospects in Texas A&M Aggie Isaiah Spiller, Georgia Bulldogs James Cook and Zamir White, and others.
