2. Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State

We know the Cowboys need wide receiver depth. Will they trade up for top talent like Chris Olave? Will they pick multiple wide receivers throughout the rounds? It’s hard to tell with Jerry Jones. It was a bit odd that the only wide receivers to get pre-draft invites to Dallas are all expected to go way before the 24th overall pick. If the Cowboys miss out on the receivers they initially targeted, Penn State’s Jahan Dotson should be on their radar.

Dotson is projected to go right around that 24th pick. In a class full of incredibly talented receivers, this Nittany Lion isn’t getting quite as much attention as he may deserve. Dotson is a speedy WR who took most of his snaps from the slot in 2021. Unlike Petit-Frere, Dotson does lack a bit in size. The Penn State product is only 5-10 and 178 pounds. However, that does not stop him from being one of the hardest players to defend on the field. His 4.43-second 40-yard dash speed goes along with his ability to be one of the best route runners in the NCAA.

Dotson proved to be one of the most effective pieces of Penn State’s offense in 2021 with almost 1,200 yards of offense and 12 receiving touchdowns. The Nittany Lion is a smart player who uses his routes to confuse defenders and then turns on the jets with his long speed. Despite his size, he is physical and competitive and doesn’t shy away from blocking (although it certainly isn’t his strongest asset). Dotson can easily be a starting wide receiver in the NFL in 2022 and the Cowboys should be paying more attention to him.
