3 reasons why you really have to like the Cowboys draft haul
The Dallas Cowboys had and will have holes to fill moving forward, they had that in their minds while drafting
When looking at the next reason why you have to love this draft for the Dallas Cowboys, it has everything to do with practicality, which has also been mentioned.
Ranked at or near the bottom of the league last season in most, if not all, defensive categories, they needed to address the side of the ball with a pressing urgency.
Had A Need. Assessed It. Attacked It.
On top of that and as can now be seen with Leighton Vander Esch and Antuan Woods, with LVE not having his option picked up and Woods being let go recently, they knew they wouldn’t keep all of the guys that were there last season, even if it doesn’t fully happen until after this season or not with Vander Esch.
You also take into account that they lost a guy or so in free agency, where they had major needs at every level of their defense already. They drafted guys at all three levels and guys who could actually be impact guys.
That’s the second reason why you love what they did. They weren’t shy, nor did they beat around the bush with it all.
They saw what needed to be done and did that. While the players still have to live up to their draft slots, profiles, and everything they hope to be, the fact that the Cowboys did what they needed to do by trying to grab the right kinds of guys for the holes they had is encouraging.
