While I’m not convinced we’ve seen the last of linebacker Sean Lee as a player, I have to believe a transition to coaching for the savvy veteran is an attractive out. Hitting 35-years of age next season, the two-time Pro Bowl defender is clearly starting to slow as numerous injuries have taken their toll.

Lee has played only seven games this season, recording a mere 73 total defensive snaps entering Week 15. He missed the Cowboys’ first seven games due to having sports hernia surgery. In his 11-year career, Lee has played a full-16 game season only once.

And while the high-work ethic Lee can still play on the NFL-level, Father Time remains undefeated. The aging defender could see the writing on the wall this offseason, hang up the cleats, and pick up a whistle.

There’s also the distinct possibility, like longtime Cowboys’ tight end Jason Witten this year, Lee decides to confuse fans and put on another uniform next year. Or, perhaps Lee simply signs another one-year deal to stay with the team that originally drafted him back in 2010.

In the end, this could be the final two games we see Sean Lee in a Dallas Cowboys’ uniform … but not the last time we see him roaming the sidelines.
