Prince Amukamara, Cornerback

Beggars can’t be choosers. And the cornerback market is razor-thin right now. That’s unless you’d like to see the Cowboys bring back crowd favorites like Morris Claiborne or B.W. Webb. Although Dallas did sign Brandon Carr again, so stranger things have happened.

With Chidobe Awuzie and Anthony Brown currently on Injured Reserve, Trevon Diggs playing like the rookie he is, and Jourdan Lewis making fans forget how much they wanted him to play under Kris Richard, this unit is in desperate need for corners. So much so, we might see another dreaded Odell Beckham Jr. – Brandon Carr lowlight this Sunday.

While fans of America’s Team will remember Prince Amukamara from his time with the New York Giants as a former first-rounder who often got burned by the Cowboys in coverage, the 31-year old is by far the best available free agent cornerback on the market right now.

Fortunately, Amukamara is just two years removed from his best overall performance as a professional. He’s started 30 games for the Chicago Bears over the past two seasons and actually posted three interceptions in 2018, tying his career-high.

While likely not the ideal signing for Dallas Cowboys’ fans, Prince Amukamara represents the best free agency currently has to offer. And unless the team is willing to dip into their future draft stock to make a trade to address the position, Amukamara would be an upgrade over better-suited safeties like Daryl Worley and Brandon Carr at cornerback.
