Damon Harrison, Defensive Tackle

Here’s a name you likely haven’t heard announced during a game this season … Dontari Poe. If you didn’t know, the Pro Bowl defensive tackle actually plays for America’s Team. And while he’s at a position that doesn’t typically steal headlines, the fact he’s had been all but invisible is concerning.

In fact, Poe played his most defensive snaps of the season against the Seahawks in Week Three, 46 defensive snaps (61%). He came away with just one solo tackle and one assist. And while quarterback Russell Wilson and Seattle’s passing attack was busy embarrassing the secondary to the tune of five touchdowns, the Seahawks still made the time to rush for 117 yards on 26 attempts (4.5 yards per carry).

If the game is really won in the trenches, the Cowboys have some major work to do. And while waiting around hoping this unit finds some cohesion at some point, one of the top run-stopping defensive tackles in the NFL is still available for the taking. But likely not for long.

A union between the Cowboys and Damon Harrison would be perfect. And the veteran defender wants to play and is supposed to meet with the Seahawks this week according to ESPN NFL Insider, Adam Schefter.

This one is a no-brainer. Harrison is currently living in the Dallas area and would fill an immediate need for Dallas. Hopefully, the extended time off has helped to heal the injures that plagued the 31-year old veteran last season in his second year with the Detroit Lions.

In 2018, Detroit made a midseason trade for Harrison and he transformed their entire defensive unit, elevating the Lions to become a top-ten ranked defense by season’s end. Perhaps the player known lovingly as “Snacks” can do the same in Dallas … if given the chance.
