Cowboys Team Need: Safety

The Cowboys continue to be unsettled at safety. Xavier Woods appears to be cemented at one of the starting spots. But Darian Thompson, the player who beat out former first-rounder Ha Ha Clinton-Dix for the starting role during training camp saw his defensive snaps in Week Two drop significantly.

That’s because defensive coordinator Mike Nolan wanted to work in both Darryl Worley and Brandon Carr into the safety rotation, and not at Woods expense. Nolan is wanting someone to come in, jump off the tape, and win the role outright. So far, no one has.

Free Agent: Earl Thomas, S

If the Cowboys are going to add a free agent safety to their roster, it has to be Earl Thomas, right? Well, we did see the team go with another Baltimore Raven defensive back recently in Carr.

We’ve also talked at ad nauseam about why Thomas would be a perfect fit in Dallas. The seven-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl winner remains unsigned following his release from the Baltimore Ravens back in August.

If the Dallas defense continues to not take advantage of takeaway opportunities when they come their way, and the standings suffer for it, how much longer can owner and general manager Jerry Jones resist bringing in Earl Thomas?
