The Leg has been perfect

A kicker would probably not make a surprise list for most NFL teams. But the Cowboys struggled mightily in that area last season. Then the team replaced the inconsistent Brett Maher with Kai Forbath, and things improved greatly.

The Cowboys then opted to bring on a new special teams coach in John “Bones” Fassel this offseason. And despite re-signing Forbath, the Cowboys also added former Pro Bowler kicker Greg Zuerlein to the roster as well.

Zuerlein was coming off an injury-plagued 2019, which saw him make just five of his 11 field goal attempts between 40-49 yards. But his former special teams coach, Fassel, opted to bring him to Dallas anyway. And after the Cowboys decided to release Forbath earlier this month, The Leg became The Man in Big D.

And so far, Zuerlein has been perfect. That according to Jon Machota over at The Athletic.

Specials teams have been a problem for the Dallas Cowboys over the past few years, especially when it comes to consistency from their kicker. Now, they have a veteran in Greg Zuerlein who’s just three years removed from his first Pro Bowl bid. Along with a new coordinator in John Fassel, the Cowboys are hoping many of their special teams’ issues are now a thing of the past.
