The Cowboys lost their sack leader in 2019 when Robert Quinn signed with the Chicago Bears as a free agent this offseason. Quinn racked up 11.5 sacks for Dallas last season. In order to replace his production, the Cowboys took a flier on pass rusher Aldon Smith despite the fact he hasn’t played in the NFL since 2015.

While the Cowboys still have players like Tyrone Crawford, Dorance Armstrong, Joe Jackson, and rookie Bradlee Anae who might be able to adequately fill Quinn’s shoes, where Dallas stands in the pass-rushing department is a true unknown.

And with the possibility that left defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence could decide to opt-out of the 2020 regular season due to COVID-19 concerns, the Cowboys could quickly find themselves in a pass-rushing pickle.

Enter in free agent Jabaal Sheard. Over the past three seasons, Sheard has played at left end, right end, and right outside linebacker. He certainly possesses the type of position-flex Nolan will be looking for.

The 31-year old Sheard has also racked up 15.5 sacks over the past three years, starting in 45 of a possible 48 games. While the numbers might not wow you, Sheard is consistent. And with other free agent pass rushers like Jadeveon Clowney and Everson Griffen getting all the press, this could be an under-the-radar signing for Dallas that could pay dividends this season.
