Maxx Williams, TE

The Cowboys did nothing to address their needs at tight end in the draft. Likely because they do not believe they have any. But the return of Jason Witten would seem to only further hinder the development of Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz in Dallas. And it appears Rico Gathers could have played his last down for the Cowboys already.

Williams appears to be the kind of free agency flier this team loves to take. A second-round selection out of Minnesota back in 2015, Maxx just turned 25-years old. Injuries derailed his career with the Baltimore Ravens and now he’s looking for a chance at redemption.

Geno Smith, QB

After the preseason display both backup quarterbacks Cooper Rush and Mike White put up last year, I’m not sure anyone is comfortable with either being under center in any sort of meaningful contest. And both lack any experience at the NFL level.

Smith is a six-year veteran who has started 31 games in the league, mostly with the New York Jets in his first four seasons. The 28-year old veteran is still young enough to resurrect his career but also has the experience to help fourth-year passer Dak Prescott both on the sidelines and in the film room.
