The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly reached an agreement on a two-year deal with former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Allen Hurns.

After not signing a single player from another roster through the first official week of free agency, the Dallas Cowboys have suddenly become players in the open market. They kicked off the action on Thursday, inking free agent linebacker Joe Thomas and wide receiver Deonte Thompson to add some much needed depth to their leaking roster.

On Friday, America’s Team reportedly made their first splash signing. Initially reported by ESPN’s Josina Anderson, former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Allen Hurns has agreed to a two-year deal, worth up to $12 million to play for the Cowboys.

The 26-year old Hurns was originally an undrafted free agent out of Miami (FL) in 2014. The 6-foot-3, 201 pound wide out has spent his entire four-year career in Jacksonville. Hurns posted a  breakout performance his rookie season recording 51 receptions for 677 yards and six touchdowns. His best season as a professional came the following year, when Hurns racked up an incredible 64 catches for 1,031 yards and 10 scores.

The fifth-year receiver’s numbers dropped the past two seasons due to separate hamstring and ankle injuries. But Hurns is still a young player with plenty of potential. And he joins a receiver corps in Dallas that’s in desperate need of consistent play.

By adding Hurns, the Cowboys now have a reliable receiver for third-year quarterback Dak Prescott to target. The newest addition also casts a shadow on the futures of both Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams in Dallas. Many seem to believe Hurns makes the perfect addition to play alongside the 29-year old Bryant in the starting lineup, replacing Williams. Others think this means the Cowboys have decided to move on from Dez completely.

Regardless, the addition of Allen Hurns to this Dallas Cowboys receiver corps is a much-needed upgrade. Throw in the possibility that the Cowboys could select a wide receiver high in the upcoming NFL draft, and this could be mark a offensive youth movement in Big D, similar to what Dallas did to their defensive secondary in 2017.
