Analysis: Here’s a name you probably haven’t heard much. Johnson is a restricted free agent who is currently on the Detroit Lions’ roster. After recording six sacks in a limited role last season, the Lions tendered the practice squad veteran to the lowest tender possible. This means Detroit can match any offer Johnson receives, but if he is signed away, they will receive no compensation.

After barely touching the field his first three seasons as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Minnesota Vikings respectively, Johnson’s production was a surprise last year in Detroit. Although considered by some to be the best defensive end left in free agency, any team that takes a chance on sixth-year player is hoping he isn’t a one-year wonder.

But the low price tag might be worth the risk. Especially if your team is in dire need of pass rushers as much as the Cowboys’ defense is.
