Dallas Cowboys fourth round selection wide receiver Ryan Switzer continues to impress as the team began Organized Team Activities this week.

Poise. Confidence. Good football sense. Savvy. These are all words used by Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett used to describe rookie wide receiver Ryan Switzer. The fourth round selection out of North Carolina continues to garner praise this week as the Cowboys officially started Organized Team Activities.

The 5-foot-8, 181 pound receiver has been called a Cole Beasley clone. Possessing similar size and skills, Switzer has an element of shiftiness and quickness that should make him a very quarterback-friendly target. The 22-year old is also expected to make a major impact on special teams as he was a fearless and effective punt returner at North Carolina.

Coming off an impressive outing during Cowboys rookie minicamp, Switzer continued to impress throughout the team’s first OTAs this week. That was impart due to the fact the rookie got extra snaps with the first team offense due to Beasley dealing with sore hamstrings.

And with Switzer in the starting lineup, the Cowboys offense seemingly didn’t miss a beat. Depth at the slot position is one of the main reasons Dallas spent a fourth round pick on the diminutive receiver last month. Although it’s still early, quarterback Dak Prescott has nothing but praise for his newest offensive weapon.

"“I think [Switzer’s] going to be a good player,” Prescott told ESPN after practice on Wednesday. “He’s a guy that can definitely learn a lot from Beasley. They’re definitely similar in their play style. He’s got some stuff to him. Excited just for him to keep learning, getting better watching Bease, watching these other guys.”"

And it’s that “stuff” that might actually separate Switzer from a player like Beasley a bit. Although Cole is arguably the best slot receiver in the NFL, his down the field ability is limited. Switzer is more of a big play threat as he is able to utilize the skills that make him an excellent and exciting punt returner to gain yards after the catch as a receiver.
