With the 92nd overall selection in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select cornerback Jourdan Lewis.

With their first selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys got their pass rushing war daddy in Michigan defensive end Taco Charlton. In the second round, the Cowboys began to shore up their defensive secondary by selecting Colorado defensive back Chidobe Awuzie.

Going into the third round of the draft, the Cowboys were expected to continue addressing their defensive needs, specifically at the safety position. Who did Dallas actually pull the trigger on?

With the 92nd overall selection in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select…

Jourdan Lewis, Cornerback, Michigan

Here’s what you need to know about the young prospect and the newest Dallas Cowboy:

Height: 5’10”
Weight: 188 lbs.
Combine 40 Speed/Vertical: 4.54/34 1/2
2016 Numbers: 25 tackles, 1.0 sack, 13 pds, 2 ints

Player Breakdown: The ideal nickleback. Plays bigger than his body. 45 pass defends in four years at Michigan, but only six interceptions. There is an off-the-field concern with pending misdemeanor domestic violence charges from March. First round talent but lack of size and potential legal issues dropped him to late third round.

Cowboys Analysis: Lewis’s selection likely means the Cowboys are moving on from veteran cornerback Orlando Scandrick. Could also mean Dallas will try and play second rounder Awuzie on the outside or at safety. Lewis and Awuzie rebuild Cowboys secondary immediately. Jourdan’s size makes him the likely starter at nickleback in Dallas.

Another Greg Jackson guy here, the Cowboys current safeties coach. Jackson spent 2015 as Michigan’s secondary coach.
