One longtime Dallas Cowboys insider says he would trade all of the team’s picks in this year’s draft in order to get Texas A&M pass rusher Myles Garrett.

The projected number one overall selection in the upcoming NFL Draft, Texas A&M pass rusher Myles Garrett, made headlines in February when a video leaked of him pleading the Dallas Cowboys to trade up for him.

Possessing the 28th overall pick in the first round, the Cowboys would have to mortgage their future trading multiple high draft selections in order to move up to the top selection, which is currently occupied by the Cleveland Browns.

But according to one Cowboys insider, betting the farm on Garrett could be the safest bet in the entire draft. And he wouldn’t mind sacrificing every one of Dallas’ draft selections in this year’s draft in order to acquire the former Aggie defensive end.

"“[Myles] Garrett is the surest thing in this draft,” wrote Dallas Morning News sports columnist Kevin Sherrington while answering chat questions this week. “Great talent, great person, great work ethic. He’s so good, I wouldn’t mind seeing Jerry do what Mike Ditka did with Ricky Williams and trade his draft for him…Seriously, if the Cowboys could get the top pick for a first and second this year and a first next year, I’d do it. Garrett is a once-in-a-generation player.”"

Although there have been rumblings that the Browns are unsure what they will do with the number one overall selection in the upcoming draft, Garrett is unquestionably the most talented player in this class.

The 6-foot-5, 262 pound defensive end posted a combined 141 total tackles, 47.0 tackles for a loss and 31.0 sacks during his three seasons at Texas A&M.

The Cowboys certainly need a premier pass rusher. But the price to move up 27 spots in the first round of draft him would be immense.

According to Pro Football Talk’s Draft Trade Chart, the difference between the first overall selection (3,000 points) and the 28th pick (660 points) is a whopping 2,340 points! That’s more than three first round selections at the Cowboys’ current position. That’s literally trading away the team’s future for one player.

And no matter how touted a prospect is, there is no guarantee he’ll become a franchise-saving player. Until last season, 2014 first round selection Jadeveon Clowney, who was drafted by the Houston Texans, could have easily been considered a draft bust due to injury.

Last year’s top pick, California quarterback Jared Goff, struggled during his first year while Cowboys late fourth round selection, Mississippi State Dak Prescott, ended up winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award playing under center in Dallas.

The point is, no draft pick is a sure thing. And trading away your team’s future for one prospect is the quickest way to find yourself unemployed and at the bottom of the standings. Ditka found that out firsthand when he was fired a year after drafting Williams, who didn’t turn out to be the transcendent player the Saints’ head coach bet the farm he would instantly become.
