Based on Abram Elam’s Twitter feed this afternoon, a deal with the Cowboys is probably imminent. In the four tweets below, Elam all but says he will soon be a Cowboy. The most convincing to me is the last one, when he simply retweeted a reference to the Big Screen. Apparently, this tweet was to an aspiring movie star and not a reference to the biggest screen in the world. Sorry, though I’d argue that it was a justifiable mistake considering the context. Damn you, Twitter. Why must you be so confusing? Still, it doesn’t change the tone of the [...]
Are the Cowboys close to signing Abram Elam?
The Cowboys and safety Abram Elam have been a rumored pairing all week. To be honest, I expected Elam to be signed already, but there might be a disconnect on money. According to Elam’s twitter feed, he has been on the phone with Rob Ryan lately and he essentially said that lack of payment is the only thing that is currently preventing him from being a Cowboy. I still expect this deal to happen, but the Cowboys need to be careful that someone doesn’t swoop in and steal Elam. The are fewer available safeties every day and they still need [...]
Roy Williams hopes that Jay Cutler will be his friend
Yesterday, Jerry admitted that the Roy Williams trade was one he’d like to have back. Maybe he should’ve just hired Mike Martz. According to Roy Williams, not having Martz was the reason he didn’t find success in Dallas. That was just one gem in an ESPN Chicago article in which Roy’s obliviousness was on full display. Here are some excerpts: Williams offered up a simple explanation for why he failed to put up big numbers with the Cowboys. “Martz wasn’t there,” Williams said. And as for the system he ran in Dallas compared to the Martz offense? “Big difference,” Williams [...]
Mike Jenkins is miffed over off-season criticism
Yesterday, Mike Jenkins announced to the media that he wouldn’t be speaking to them this season. The inconsistent Jenkins is apparently irked by the criticism he received over the off-season. Essentially, Mike has told everyone that he will be taking his ball and going home. I’m a pretty big fan of 2009 Mike Jenkins. However, I found 2008 and 2010 Mike Jenkins to be infuriating. Guys that quit on plays drive me nuts and I’m sure I’m not alone in that. In fact, I know I’m not. There are a lot of fans that don’t like Jenkins because he is [...]
Jerry Cakes with a side of links
It’s okay that the Cowboys didn’t sign Nnamdi Asomugha. I promise. If Rob Ryan does his job this year, they should be fine at corner. A little pressure goes a long way in making the secondary look better. Of course, the Cowboys need to lock down a couple of safeties, like yesterday. The idea of going into the season with AOA or Church starting is fairly terrifying. At this point in their careers, it’s doubtful either one would be that much of an improvement over Alan Ball. However, the Cowboys would’ve been facing this problem even if they had gotten [...]
The Cowboys haven’t exactly made the free agent splash that many fans were wanting. They obviously made a stab at Nnamdi, and they have been tied to a variety of other names that still remain on the market. But nothing too significant as of yet. However, they did quietly address their defensive end needs today by bringing back Marcus Spears and adding Kenyon Coleman. Coleman previously spend four seasons with the Cowboys from 2003-2006. Last year, Coleman started fourteen games for the Browns and current Dallas defensive coordinator, Rob Ryan. Apparently, previously playing for Ryan is all the Cowboys are looking [...]
Nnamdi Asomugha Signs with the Eagles
The pursuit of Nnamdi Asomugha has officially reached soap opera status. First, the NFL Network reported that the Jets are officially out of the sweepstakes. That led many to believe that Nnamdi was headed to Dallas. To further heightened the suspicion that he is headed to Dallas, Jerry was seen tossing around fist bumps at practice. But, news has just come down that he signed with the Eagles. I wasn’t a fan of the Cowboys’ pursuit of the Nnamdi, but I certainly didn’t want him signing with the Eagles. Hopefully, the move will back fire on them like I was [...]
Tashard Choice Likely Out 2-4 Weeks
It wouldn’t be training camp without some injuries to worry about and first up on the list is Tashard Choice. Yesterday, Choice left practice with a strained calf and Todd Archer is reporting today that it’s likely to keep him out two to four weeks. With DeMarco Murray hurting and Marion Barber no longer with the team, the ‘Boys are suddenly thin at running back. It’s early, so a two to four week injury isn’t anything to get overly worked up over, but Choice and Murray both need the work right now. Clipped from: bit.ly (share this clip)
Marcus Spears Returns to the Cowboys
After an off-season of speculating that Marcus Spears wouldn’t back with the Cowboys this season, the team decided that they need him after all. According to Adam Schefter, Spears and the ‘Boys agreed to a 5 year, $19.2 million deal. Marcus may not have been the team’s top target at d-line, but with the outrageous contract that was given to Stephen Bowen, they probably decided that he wasn’t a bad option after all. Also, if paired with maybe a Cullen Jenkins, Spears can still be an effective difference maker. Finally, not to speculate too much on this — okay, to [...]
DeMarcus Ware mentors Tyron Smith
Despite what Warren Sapp says, if DeMarcus Ware were an ant, he could probably find a picnic. That was an interesting analogy by Sapp. In actual application it’s completely illogical. An ant’s job is to find food. I think we can all agree on that. When you see ants marching in a line to scavenge food, they are following a pheromone put out by a scout ant. Any scout ant that is as good at its job as DeMarcus Ware is at his is one prolific ass ant. DeMarcus Ware might be the best in the world at getting to [...]
