Dez Bryant: The Next Randy Moss, Antonio Bryant, or …?

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Cowboys, Draft, NFL | COMMENTS: 13 Comments

By: Joe D. Dez Bryant had an airing of grievances today.  He believes he is being unfairly maligned by the media.  He cited that he does not have a criminal history, and while this is true, he is guilty of assault on the English language. “I’m not the type of person that will try to confront somebody but now I feel like it’s gone too far. It’s gone too far,” Bryant said in an interview with The Associated Press. “I ain’t never got in trouble with nobody. I never said anything. I don’t say anything wrong to nobody. I’m friendly. This here [...]

Cowboys Tip Draft Plans With Prospect Visits

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, Draft, Popular | COMMENTS: 31 Comments

Written by theMBIIIeffect Things are starting to pick up in Dallas with next month’s draft closing in. Over the next two days, the Cowboys are bringing in between 15 and 20 prospects likely to be taken in the draft. Among the prospects coming in are Idaho guard Mike Iupati, Georgia Tech safety Morgan Burnett, Kentucky fullback John Conner and Cal defensive end Tyson Alualu. Apparently, Jerry Jones likes what’s going on at Penn State, as he’s bringing in defensive tackle Jared Odrick and linebackers Navorro Bowman and Sean Lee. What might be most interesting about the prospects receiving invites is [...]

Kudos to the Cowboys for a Quiet Off-Season

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, NFL | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

By: Joe D. I know I am tempting fate by acknowledging the unspoken, but the Dallas Cowboys players and management have been incredibly well-behaved this off-season.  While management may have been tempted, they did not sink millions of dollars into mediocre (& often malcontented) talent.  The players have mostly avoided the police blotter (save for Deon Anderson).  That doesn’t mean there hasn’t been “wrong doing”.  In this society, getting caught doing wrong is often more important than the wrong doing itself.  Football is a sport played by abnormal people.  They have to have a special warring mentality.  Players tend to have a greater [...]

Breaking News: Blockbuster Trade Brewing For McNabb

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 11 Comments

Written by theMBIIIeffect According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Len Pasquarelli, the Oakland Raiders are willing to part with cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha in exchange for quarterback Donovan McNabb. Check out these two tweets from Schefter: ESPN.com’s Len Pasquarelli reports Oakland is willing to part with CB Nnamdi Asomugha in exchange for Donovan McNabb – but Eagles reluctant. Remember: Asomugha’s contract is a burden. It has one year, $16 million left and strong provisions preventing him from being franchised. Schefter went on to tweet that McNabb preferred Minnesota over Oakland as well as Buffalo, but the Eagles would probably rather go ahead [...]

Should Cowboys Go Bryant Or Marshall In First Round?

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, Popular | COMMENTS: 8 Comments

Written by theMBIIIeffect So Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant is supposed to visit with the Dallas Cowboys. So far, the Cowboys are the only team to schedule a private workout with the wide receiver. Most mock drafts have Bryant going somewhere in the first round, but his lack of recent game film due to a 10-game suspension must have scouts and general managers worried. Scouting reports say that he lacks top-end speed, but he’s a big target that will help quarterbacks in the red zone. But so is Brandon Marshall. And Marshall is fast. But Marshall is probably the [...]

Miles Austin Wants Deal Before Season Starts

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 13 Comments

Miles Austin’s agent, David Dunn, has told reporters that he wants his client signed before the start of the 2010 season. The Dallas Cowboys already gave Austin a 1st- and 3rd-round tender, which means they could pay him about $3.2 million. With the stellar year Austin just had, his agent believes his man is now worth a long-term deal. We can only rewind the tapes on the history of Jerry Jones’ life to find the answer: Austin will need to do more than just have one good season. Heck, Antonio Bryant had one good season; a lot of wide receivers had one [...]

Sign of the Apocalypse: NFL Overtime Rules Change

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Cowboys | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

By: Joe D. Rumors of overtime rules changing have been wide spread.  The impetus for the change has been attributed to Brett Favre not having an opportunity to touch the ball in the 2009 NFC Championship game.  This won’t add to Favre’s narcissism. As recently as yesterday, discussions regarding changes in overtime were to be tabled until May.  First healthcare reform, now this.  I guess it is time to start the countdown to 2012. Regular season games will be unaffected; however, postseason games will be subject to the new rule: If a team wins the coin toss and then kicks [...]

Tony Romo, Low Post Monster?

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, Popular | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Written by theMBIIIeffect Tony Romo isn’t just playing golf this offseason. He’s playing a little basketball too. Check out this video from TMZ of Romo getting physical in a Plano, TX adult recreational league game. Not bad, Tony. Not bad. Again, this is the most we’ve heard from the Cowboys this offseason. Check out some of the other news stories coming out of Dallas. The Cowboys will have a split training camp this summer. The Cowboys will practice in Oxnard and in San Antonio. Miles Austin would like a new contract, but it’s unlikely to happen before the 2010 season. [...]

Dallas Receives Zero Compensatory Picks

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, Popular | COMMENTS: Comments Off

By: Joe D. Compensatory picks were announced today.  The New England Patriots received the most compensatory picks (one sixth round pick, and three seventh round picks).  The Bengals and Titans received the best compensatory picks receiving the 33rd and 34th picks respectively in the 3rd round. Compensatory picks are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. A team losing more or better players than it acquires is eligible. Considering Dallas acquired Gerald Sensabaugh, Keith Brooking, and Igor Olshansky versus losing Chris Canty and some lower level talent, it wasn’t a surprise that the Cowboys were shutout [...]
