Fat Guys Running in Shorts: Combine Edition

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 13 Comments

By: Joe D. Why is it breaking news to find out that there are speculations about Jimmy Clausen being 2 inches shorter than previously reported?  Other than being prohibited from riding the new roller-coaster, Gigantus (the only roller coaster made by giants for giants), I can’t see a reason why that would prohibit him from being capable of playing in the NFL.  This story and many like it will be broadcast live in high definition on the NFL Network.  Many may assume I believe 20+ hours of fat guys running in shorts is ridiculous; even more so, someone sitting down to [...]

Cowboys Could Select Safety Or Tackle In NFL Draft

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, Draft | COMMENTS: 29 Comments

I’ve checked a lot of mock drafts and it seems these guessers believe the Dallas Cowboys will select with the 27th pick either a safety or a tackle in the 2010 NFL Draft. Obviously, the Cowboys needs to replace aging tackle Flozell Adams. He will be playing in his 13th season, and guard Kyle Kosier is in the final year of his contract. I do not believe the Cowboys will resign him. Who that tackle or safety will be runs the gamut. I think I’ve seen almost every lower-tier guy named in one of these mock drafts. Sports Illustrated’s Don [...]

Fixing the Franchise Tag

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

By: Joe D. Every year a player gets the franchise tag, and every year we hear how players resent the tag.  Broken record style, we are told that originally the tag was supposed to be an honor.  Players are forced to wait at least one more year (occasionally 2) to achieve financial security they rightfully earned by their quality of play.  They risk their financial well being 23 times in games plus countless practices where they could be irrevocably injured.  Sure they earn 2.6 to 14.5 million dollars for one season, depending upon their position, but if they sign a [...]

Nick Folk is now a NY Jet

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Cowboys, NFL | COMMENTS: 7 Comments

By: Joe D. Per ESPN, Nick Folk (former Dallas Cowboys kicker) signed with the NY Jets to a one year deal.  Both the Jets and Giants will be moving from the swirling winds of Giants Stadium into a new statdium.  If the winds continue to swirl at the new stadium, concerns may arise quickly in the 2010 season about whether he has the confidence to kick in such a hostile environment.  The pressure from the media shouldn’t be any greater than it was in Dallas, however.  Though this has been covered on several occasions, a quick look at Jay Feely’s kicking performance  last year suggests that he [...]

Cowboys Trades that Won’t Happen, but Should…

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, Draft, News, NFL, Rumors | COMMENTS: 43 Comments

By: Joe D. The NFL is allergic to trades.  A brief look at the Cowboys recent history will clarify why.  In 2000, Dallas traded 2 first round draft picks to Seattle for Joey Galloway.  The Cowboys were looking to replace Michael Irvin and regain their offensive swagger.  Aikman and Galloway were injured that season and a long run of mediocre quarterback play followed.  Galloway’s tenure in Dallas is mostly considered a failure considering the two lost draft picks contributed to extending a painful rebuilding effort.  In 2008, a trade for Adam Jones for a 4th round draft pick was widely [...]

Tiger Woods’s Press Conference and the Athletes We Love

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, Off-Topic/Other | COMMENTS: 28 Comments

By: Joe D. Tiger Woods will have a press conference on Friday.  He will discuss his transgressions, his future in golf, and he will apologize.  The world will be listening.  According to public relations experts on sports talk radio, Tiger will be contrite and will explain how he is flawed and how he seeks forgiveness from the public and his family who he betrayed. You know what I’m hoping he says?  First I hope he says that people are too nosy and they need to mind their own business.  He’s a professional golfer and not an elected official.  He’s not a member [...]

Cowboys Looking Smart For Letting Canty Walk

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 47 Comments

Written by theMBIIIeffect Aside from Miles Austin and Gerald Sensabaugh, the Cowboys won’t be too busy working on big-money deals for players on their current roster this spring. Sometimes, it’s better for the team when these deals don’t get done. Think back to last spring and a Cowboys player who didn’t get the big contract he wanted. Think about Chris Canty. Check out this season’s numbers for Canty, the former Cowboys defensive end that the Giants signed on a 6-year, $42 million contract. Now, check out the numbers for his replacement, Igor Olshansky. The Cowboys signed him on a 4-year [...]

Kevin Kolb for President, or at Least Starter

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, NFL | COMMENTS: 21 Comments

By: Joe D. I had the displeasure to spend the day in Philadelphia today.  Sports talk radio focused on baseball, but they did take their opportunity to express their desire to move past the Donovan McNabb era.  I FULLY SUPPORT THEIR DESIRE!  I know McNabb isn’t the best QB in the league, but he certainly has given the Cowboys trouble over the years.  Even when the Cowboys beat the Eagles, McNabb escapes countless number of sacks and prolongs plays. Currently the Eagles have Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick on their roster and both are signed through the end of 2010 [...]

Cowboys Must Sign Field Goal Kicker ASAP Now That Janikowski Is Off The List

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 10 Comments

The Dallas Cowboys have yet to address their biggest weakness, which is finding a solid, dependable field goal kicker. It now looks like their best option, Oakland Raiders field goal kicker Sebastion Janikowski is not going to be available. The Raiders plan to make Janikowski the highest-paid field goal kicker in the NFL, according to ESPN. Janikowski is the top kicker who could have been available. ESPN notes other notable free agents are Cincinnati’s Shayne Graham and the New York Jets’ Jay Feely. It would be a mistake to try to make David Buehler into a field goal kicker. Buehler [...]

Will Miles Austin lose sleep over his contract?

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, NFL, Rumors | COMMENTS: 10 Comments

By: Joe D. Miles Austin had a breakout season in 2009 recording 81 receptions, 1,320 yards receiving, with 11 td’s earning his first trip to the pro-bowl.  Amazingly he did this all in only 12 games as a starter (In the first four games he contributed 5 catches for 81 yards).  Miles is a restricted free agent this year and is also subject to being frachised by the Dallas Cowboys. In the NFL, quarterbacks can excel for one year and then are mediocre for the remainder of their career.  Scott Mitchell, to the dismay of the Detroit Lions fans, and [...]
