Winners and losers from the Cowboys' massive Quinnen Williams' trade

How about these Cowboys?

You have to give credit where it's due; Jerry Jones has been a man of his word, as he did say in front of a national TV audience that the Dallas Cowboys were adding players to their defense, and early in the morning, news broke that linebacker Logan Wilson was headed to the Cowboys.

And a few hours later, the Cowboys broke the internet with another major trade, as they are acquiring Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets for a first-round pick and more. Dallas is clearly loading up on defense, and they have a bye in Week 10 to get Wilson and Williams acclimated to the defense.

If nothing else, the Cowboys are trying to fix things and trying to make it right - they have a playoff-caliber offense and could make the playoffs, but they have to begin stacking wins after the bye. Who are the winners and losers from this major trade?

Winners and losers from the major Cowboys' trade for Quinnen Williams

Winner: Matt Eberflus

Matt Eberflus is in his first year as the Cowboys' defensive coordinator, and it's not gone well, but to an extent, you really can't blame him. He watched as Micah Parsons was shipped to the Green Bay Packers, but about two months later, he has seen both Logan Wilson and Quinnen Williams enter the mix. Eberflus gets help his unit needs.

Winner: Jerry Jones

At least, Jerry Jones thinks he's a winner, but I do believe he's made two worthwhile additions for the defense. Logan Wilson and Quinn Williams are both plus-players and are going to make this defense better when they take the field.

Jerry Jones said they were going to improve this unit, and they did, so I struggle to see how he isn't a big winner. Jones also loves the spotlight, so he's surely enjoying all of this.

Loser: Mazi Smith

Mazi Smith is actually a part of this trade; he's headed to the New York Jets as a part of this deal. Smith just never caught on with the Dallas Cowboys and has been a bust in every sense of the word. Smith had played five games for the Cowboys this year, starting nine of them, and racked up three total tackles.

This comes after starting all 17 games for Dallas in 2024. Smith now heads to the New York Jets, a significantly worse team and a team like to stay bad for the future. If nothing else, Mazi Smith was at least a part of a relevant team. He's an obvious loser from this trade.
