Where the Cowboys stand in the 2025 NFL Draft order heading into Week 13
By Luke Norris
There are two ways to look at the Dallas Cowboys' 34-26 upset victory over the Washington Commanders this past Sunday.
On the one hand, fans of America's Team could be thrilled that the Cowboys refused to tank the season, continued to keep fighting through these tough times, and kept their slim postseason hopes alive with a win.
Naturally, on the other hand, Dallas fans could be furious that this team refused to tank the season and worsened its standing in the 2025 NFL Draft order.
It's kind of a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation the Cowboys have going on here. But such is life in the NFL, right? You're never going to please everybody, no matter what you do.
Realistically, of course, even with this win, Dallas still only has about a 3% chance to make the NFL Playoffs for the fourth straight season.
At 4-7 heading into Week 13, the Cowboys currently sit in the No. 14 slot in the overall NFC standings, ahead of only the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants, the latter of whom they'll welcome to AT&T Stadium on Thursday for a Thanksgiving Day divisional battle.
They're still three behind in the win column to the Commanders, who reside in the No. 7 position, and would obviously need to pass the six teams in front of them also chasing that final wild-card slot, a couple of whom have already beaten them, which brings bad tiebreaking scenarios into play.
Now, is getting to the postseason still possible? Technically, yes. And there are some very winnable games down the stretch, obviously including Thursday's game with the two-win Giants. But is it likely? You saw me say 3%, correct?
So, while thinking Cooper Rush could lead this miraculous comeback is entertaining, we wouldn't recommend heading over to DraftKings and spending your Christmas fund on such a long shot.
Instead, let's take a look at where Dallas is projected to land in next spring's draft.
Updated 2025 NFL Draft order heading into Week 13
If the season ended tomorrow, the Cowboys would hold the No. 11 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which would mark their highest selection since they drafted Ezekiel Elliott fourth overall in 2016.
The Cowboys had the 10th pick in 2021 but traded it to the Philadelphia Eagles and dropped back to 12th, where they selected Micah Parsons.
Here's a look at what the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft looks like based on win-loss records heading into Week 13.
