It is officially training camp watch as we've hit the month of July, and that means Dallas Cowboys fans are anxiously awaiting any and all storylines that will undoubtedly unfold in the coming weeks.
One of the most intriguing parts of camp is always which end-of-roster players make the cut and which ones don't. Interestingly enough, there is a very recent signing who very well could be on his way out of Dallas sooner than he probably anticipated.
The Cowboys signed veteran cornerback Robert Rochell just last month after minicamp, and they had the right idea bringing in corner help. After all, that's an area they have needed to add depth, and that's what they did.
Robert Rochell is absolutely a cut candidate going into Cowboys training camp
The problem with adding a player like Rochell, specifically, is the fact that he didn't work out on other teams who needed depth at the position as well; particularly, the Green Bay Packers. He has played well in the preseason throughout his career, but that hasn't translated to much playing time in September and beyond.
Green Bay was amid an offseason dilemma with Jaire Alexander which they ultimately knew wouldn't end with him sticking around, if they were being honest. Still, they let Rochell hit free agency and sign with the Chiefs.
The 27-year-old's stint in Kansas City lasted only two months, as well, before he ultimately signed with Dallas in late June.
If you know any Packer fans, they aren't exactly happy with the current cornerback room. But, even Rochell wasn't good enough to cut it in a situation of dire need at the position. Over his last two seasons with the Packers, Rochell played all of ... wait for it ... one defensive snap.
Yep, that's it. He was mostly a special teams fill-in, but wasn't even trusted in the slightest in playing his natural position. That's pretty telling.
For the Cowboys, who have some injury concerns right now, they're going to have to do better than Rochell. He isn't going to last too long, and the coming weeks will prove it.
