You'd be hard-pressed to find a Dallas Cowboys fan elated about the Micah Parsons trade, especially after hearing Jerry Jones trying to defend the move. It was about as bone-headed a move as we've seen in, well ... league history?
However, if you ask one ESPN analyst in particular, the Cowboys apparently did the right thing. Noted college football expert Kirk Herbstreit appeared on Get Up to talk Parsons and had this to say about the deal:
"I know it sounds crazy, but I applaud Dallas in letting [Micah Parsons] go."
Hold up. Wait a minute. He applauds Jerry Jones for dealing Parsons? Is he seeing something we're not?
Kirk Herbstreit might be the only one giving Jerry Jones props for trading Micah Parsons
"At this point, it's probably best to give him the opportunity to go to another franchise. And then Dallas can almost start over as far as inside the building; the culture, trying to build this thing up defensively," Herbstreit went on.
Yep, he sure is seeing something different than the rest of the football world. What on earth leads Herbstreit to believe that, after over two decades of being unable to change the culture, Jerry is going to do so now? There hasn't been a high standard in Dallas for quite some time now, and Cowboys fans know it.
The analyst thinks the Cowboys can now build things up defensively ... without Parsons. How backwards does that sound after trading a 26-year-old defensive superstar in his prime?
I just don't get it.
Somehow, he believes "it's best" for Parsons to have a fresh start on another franchise. And, oh by the way, it had to be the Packers? That's what's best for the Cowboys right now?
Maybe, it's what's best for Parsons. But, the Cowboys? Not at all. Not even close, sir.
This is about as rare a take as you're going to find in the sports world, today. But, I guess someone has to take the contrarian role. It just so happened that, this time, it would be the ultimate contrarian take.
