Now that the Philadelphia Eagles signed Jalen Carter to a mammoth contract extension, it inherently complicated matters for the Dallas Cowboys, who are looking to lock up Quinnen Williams long-term. Carter's new $38 million salary will certainly drive up Big Q's price tag.
The Cowboys saw the impact Williams had on their defense in the second half of last season. Yes, the defense still finished in historically awful territory, but they took strides in the right direction after trading for him, and Jerry and Stephen Jones are well aware of that fact.
Quinnen Williams is entering the third season of a four-year, $96 million contract extension he signed with the New Yok Jets. It would behoove Dallas to be proactive about giving him a new deal and that appears to be the plan.
Extending Quinnen Williams is a major priority for the Dallas Cowboys
While addressing the media prior to the first day of training camp, Stephen Jones was asked about the Carter extension and how that may affect their pursuit of keeping the 28-year-old in Dallas long-term. Jones affirmed that the Cowboys want to ensure that their star DT stays for the long haul.
"We're very open to that," Jones said, via Nicole Hutchison of DallasCowboys.com. "We want Quinnen here for the long haul. Have a lot of resources tied up with him. He’s certainly one of the best in the business. At the top of the list of people we want to keep around here."
It's not like Jones revealed anything groundbreaking, because of course the Cowboys should want to keep the veteran after trading a first and a second-round pick to New York to acquire him at last year's trade deadline. But figuring out a fair price for one of the best interior defenders in the NFL won't come easy.
Spotrac projects the four-time Pro Bowler's market value to come in at three years and $98.4 million, which would mark an average annual salary of $32.8 million. And if that's the money the Cowboys paid him, he would become the third-highest-paid DT behind Carter and Jeffery Simmons.
Even though the former No. 3 overall pick from Alabama tied his career low with just 2.5 sacks in 2025, he posted outstanding pressure rates and remained dominant against the run.
Regardless of where the price tag lands, Stephen Jones and the Dallas Cowboys know they have to extend Quinnen Williams, and it's encouraging to know they see him as a priority.
