By Jerry Trotta
The preseason finale has arrived for the Dallas Cowboys. Can you believe it? The first day of training camp feels like yesterday. Before fans can even blink, the Cowboys will be wheels up to Cleveland for the Week 1 opener.
While all eyes will once again be on Trey Lance, whom Jerry Jones confirmed will make the regular season roster, other players can cement their case for a roster spot with a good game.

Cowboys vs. Chargers recent outcomes
The Cowboys and Chargers met last season in Week 6. It was a sloppy game for Dallas, which rallied in the fourth quarter to eek out a 20-17 victory at So-Fi Stadium. Dak Prescott was sacked five times in the game, but he led the offense down the field late in the fourth quarter to set up the game-winning 39-yard field goal from Brandon Aubrey with 2:19 left in regulation.
Before that, you have to go back to 2022 preseason for the last time these teams played. The Cowboys won 32-18 on the back of a historic performance from then-rookie KaVontae Turpin, who became the first player in nine seasons to return a kickoff and punt for a touchdown in the same game.
The performance clinched Turpin a spot on the 53-man roster. With so many position battles undecided before Saturday's finale, myriad Cowboys will hope to play even as half as good as Turpin did against the Chargers two years ago.
