So much for a riveting matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants to open the Sunday Night Football slate, right? The Cowboys took a 26-0 lead into halftime and the offense has been an afterthought.

Of course, they haven't had much to do because Trevon Diggs and the defense are sending a statement with the entire country watching.

We won't go as far as to say Daniel Jones is seeing ghosts, but the Giants quarterback tossed two (ugly) first-half interceptions and is clearly rattled by the Cowboys' pass rush.

Juanyeh Thomas' blocked field goal that Noah Igbinoghene returned for a touchdown became a footnote, but only because it happened on the game's initial drive. So much has happened since.

With the defense running roughshod at MetLife Stadium, Diggs -- the architect of the Cowboys' second (!) D/ST touchdown of the half -- had a cold-blooded message for the Giants that Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein caught on the NBC broadcast.

Cowboys' Trevon Diggs trolled NY Giants, Daniel Jones amid first half shutout

This is merely the attitude of a defense that knows its elite .. and was well-aware of the incredible (historic?) performance it produced in the first half.

It's important to note the Giants' offensive line did Jones zero favors. Not many QBs would perform well under these circumstances.

When given the time to throw, though, the former No. 7 overall pick left a lot to be desired. In the first half, he was 5-of-12 for 43 passing yards and two interceptions, adding up to a 12.2 passer rating. He was sacked three times.

Jones has now been sacked six times at the time of this writing, which means he's been sacked nearly as many times as passes he's completed. Again, it's impossible to put that all on the quarterback.

If anything, it's a testament to the state of the Giants offensive line, but more so to the buzzsaw of a defense the Cowboys have assembled.

Diggs hasn't been tested at all in coverage, but his fingerprints are all over this primetime blowout, as it was his big hit on running back Saquon Barkley that set the stage for DaRon's Bland pick-six that put all the wind in Dallas' sails.

The Cowboys haven't looked back since.

Receiving the second half kickoff, Dak Prescott orchestrated a 10-play, 75-yard drive that culminated in a Tony Pollard TD to make it 33-0.

That's all she wrote on this one, folks. The Cowboys have a championship-caliber defense and Daniel Jones and the Giants learned that the hard way.
