Being that rival fans never hesitate to throw dirt on the Dallas Cowboys, it is only fair that the proverbial serve gets returned, right?

Cowboys fans did not let Dan Quinn live down kicking former Dallas draft pick John Ridgeway to the curb for the second time. Similarly, the door was open to drag the Giants all offseason as Daniel Jones delivered lowlight after lowlight in training camp and preseason.

The same goes for the Eagles, who are looking to bounce back after one of the most spectacular late-season collapses in recent NFL history.

While Philadelphia inked extensions with multiple foundational pieces this offseason, some of their moves as far as bringing in talent outside the organization were very questionable. The decision to sign linebacker Devin White in particular is already blowing up in Howie Roseman's face.

Eagles' Devin White signing already looking like massive bust is great news for the Cowboys

White reportedly will not travel with the Eagles to Brazil and will miss Friday's game against the Packers with an ankle injury. While a pertinent update, the more notable news is that White wasn't even slated to be Philadelphia's starting middle linebacker, which is why he was signed in the first place.

Per Jeff McLane of the Philly Inquirer, White was beat out in training camp by third-year pro Nakobe Dean. A third-round pick in the 2022 draft, Dean's career hasn't gotten off the ground. He failed to crack 50 defensive snaps as a rookie and had two separate stints on IR last year due to a foot injury.

Even though Dean is unproven and injury concerns caused him to slide in the draft, it's really no surprise that White failed to beat him out. The former No. 5 overall pick has posted some gaudy stat lines in his career, but those numbers are woefully misleading.

Among 57 linebackers who played at least 600 snaps last season, White's 46.1 PFF player grade and 30.8 run-defense grade were both dead-last, per Pro Football Focus. His 31 defensive stops ranked 51st and his -.009 PFF WAR was 207th at the position among all linebackers.

White is only effective when he's blitzing. He often fills the wrong gap against the run and he's suspect in coverage despite being a plus athlete.

The Bucs handed out big contracts this offseason to several long-tenured players, including Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans, Antoine Winfield Jr. and Tristan Wirfs. They couldn't move on from White fast enough and now the Eagles find themselves in the same position.

One report claims Philly could have traded White during roster cuts. That's a pretty bizarre turn of events given White was signed in March to rejuvenate the Eagles' depleted linebacker room. Based on the latest murmurs, White might be buried on the depth chart when he returns from injury.

The Eagles would have been better off with a 32-year-old Eric Kendricks, but he'll be busy commanding the Cowboys' defense.
