NFL Defensive Player of the Year odds: Micah Parsons favored to win in 2024
Micah Parsons has finished in the top three in voting for Defensive Player of the Year each of his three seasons in the NFL, but the award has continued to evade him. He finished third in voting to T.J. Watt and Myles Garrett, despite finishing with a career-high in sacks with 14.0.
He's still early in his career with plenty of time to capture DPOY honors. Is 2024 going to be the year that he finally does it?
Let's take a look at what the oddsmakers think.
Defensive Player of the Year odds
Micah Parsons Betting Favorite to Win First DPOY Award
Cowboys fans will be pleased to see that Parsons holds the top spot in the opening odds to win Defensive Player of the Year at +600 odds. If you translate those odds to implied probability, he has a 14.29% chance of winning the award.
It's the usual suspects coming in behind him on the odds list, including 2023 DPOY Myles Garrett at +700, 2022 DPOY Nick Bosa at +800, and 2021 DPOY T.J. Watt also at +800. Maxx Crosby of the Raiders is also in the mix at +1000 after finishing fourth in voting last year.
Parsons' biggest roadblock to capturing the award has been his performance in the final stretch of games. In 2022, he only combined for 1.5 sacks in the final six games of the season and he combined for just 2.5 sacks in the final six games of the 2023 season. A lot of the time, awards voters have a short memory and the last few weeks tend to play a bigger role in their decision than the first two-thirds of the season.
If you think Parsons can end 2024 on a strong note, he's a great bet to win this award. After all, he's been closing in all three years of his career. It's not a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when" he'll be named Defensive Player of the Year.
