Not much has gone the Dallas Cowboys way in the first half on Sunday Night Football. The referees permitting WWE-esque tackles while calling Cowboys DBS for unnecessary roughness on hits over the middle isn't helping, but Dallas is getting beat pillar to post so far and trails 21-7 on the scoreboard.

The Cowboys aren't build to play from behind, but Dak Prescott showed on his inch-perfect touchdown pass to KaVontae Turpin in the second order that the offense can push the 49ers vaunted defense to its limit.

That's obviously easier said than done. Prescott has less than 100 yards passing at halftime and is averaging 5.7 yards per pass attempt. We've seen ample underneath throws, which plays right into San Francisco's hand with heat-seeking missiles Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw patrolling the second level.

Already behind the eight ball, the NBC broadcast caught Prescott wrapping his middle finger right before the Cowboys got the ball back. Per the broadcast, Dak got his hand checked out by the training staff.

It's unclear how limited Prescott is by the injury, if at all. Nevertheless, you have to wonder how the taped finger will affect the QB's grip and accuracy. With the Cowboys trailing by two touchdowns at halftime, it's obviously nowhere near ideal if Prescott's throwing motion is compromised in any way.

The silver lining is Prescott didn't look concerned on the sideline. We'll likely have an update after halftime, but it's encouraging the NBC broadcast hasn't followed up on the injury. That would suggest Prescott is dealing with something minor.

Still, it was just last season that Prescott suffered a broken thumb that required surgery. He missed five games (Dallas impressively went 4-1 in his absence), but suffice it to say that nobody wants to see Prescott and finger issue mentioned in the same sentence after last year's freak injury.

Nothing about this game so far has come up Cowboys.
