The wait is finally over. CeeDee Lamb has signed a blockbuster four-year, $136 million extension with the Dallas Cowboys. This was the expected outcome, but the Cowboys deserve all the backlash that comes their way for waiting until two weeks before the 2024 regular season to come to their senses.

Ideally, the Cowboys would have signed Lamb last offseason. It would have given them more flexibility with Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons.

Now, they have less than two weeks to extend Prescott before the Sept. 8 opener. If they don't, negotiations will have to wait until the offseason. The closer Prescott gets to free agency, the harder it will be to sign him.

In Parsons' case, it feels inevitable that his contract negotiation will mirror Lamb's. Unlike Lamb, Parsons will demand to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. If anything, Lamb's deal is good news for Parsons, but money was the last thing on No. 11's mind after No. 88 secured the bag.

Cowboys' Micah Parsons had the perfect reaction to CeeDee Lamb's contract extension

"Congratulations to my man, CeeDee Lamb," Parsons said on The Edge podcast. "Couldn't be happier for the guy. One of the best dudes in the locker room. One of the best players on our team. To get the pay day he got to take care of his family... It's a dream to be watching you, partner up with you and suiting up with you every week. Congratulations on your bread. You earned every dollar."

That pretty much sums up what every Cowboys fan was thinking after Lamb signed. Parsons is clearly relieved that Lamb's holdout is over. Like the fan base, Parsons was befuddled that Lamb's contract took so long to get done. He even reposted Lamb's explosive response to Jerry Jones on social media after Jones said he didn't have any "urgency" to get Lamb's deal done.

While Parsons is visibly ecstatic for his teammate, there is also an apparent sense of relief in his reaction. The All-Pro pass rusher knows how important Lamb is to the Cowboys' success. He's irreplaceable. Being that Lamb led all receivers in targets and catches last year, it's scary to think about what the offense would have looked like if talks spilled over into the regular season.

Luckily, nobody has to worry about that. The contract is official and Lamb is on his way to Dallas to sign it and hammer out a return-to-practice plan with the coaching staff and training staff.

Like Parsons, Cowboys nation will spend the next several days celebrating the news.
