Jerry Jones gets slammed by anonymous NFL rep who rips the Cowboys
With two weeks separating the Dallas Cowboys' last preseason game and the start of the regular season, everyone's looking for creative ways to pass the time. There are countless waiver wire pickups happening around the league, but that only scratches the football itch so much; it's sort of the same with college football.
Fortunately, The Athletic knows that we are sitting here begging for literally anything remotely interesting, and they delivered.
They dropped a big ol' piece that highlighted out each franchise is viewed, and it's basically every piece of NFL gossip you can imagine. If you're a fan of rich people making catty comments anonymously, this is the article for you.
As is usually the case, then goofballs get to say things without penalty of having to own what they're saying -- and sometimes, even when they do -- the Cowboys come away from this gossip session looking *terrible.* Turns out agents are just as confused as the rest of us.
Every Cowboys quote in The Athletic's piece sounds worse than the last
There are, like, a half-dozen quotes about the Cowboys' management, offseason decision making, and general vibes that don't inspire a ton of confidence – some of the Dak Prescott stuff will raise eyebrows – but here are a few of the headliners:
"I don’t think they want to win above all," said an anonymous executive. "Jerry (Jones) wants to turn profits and make headlines. I think the game has passed him by."
But wait, there's more.
"The Cowboys don’t have any hierarchy. Always a day late and a dollar short in free agency. You have to go through 30 layers of bureaucratic process to get anything done — and you know why.”
Woooooof. But also, the Cowboys lot in life is to be a punching bag for folks who need to blow off steam, which is why it seems the target is always on their back with thrashings like this.
If you wanted to point out that anonymously trashing the owners they have to bargain with is just free therapy for agents, I wouldn't necessarily disagree. I wouldn't even blame them, really. Negotiating with Jerry Jones does not seem like a pleasant experience, and I have no doubt that agents tripped over each other trying to line up and give their two cents once The Athletic let them do it with cover. Everyone needs to let off some steam now and again.
Who would have thought that player agents and team owners don't get along? At least they were voted more stable than the Jets.
