Handing out the Dallas Cowboys midseason awards
Rookie of the Year – Brandon Aubrey
Last season, the Cowboys thought they had a kicker in Brett Maher until the end of the year when he crumbled under pressure in the playoffs. This season the Cowboys went into the season with an unknown rookie kicker in Brandon Aubrey who beat out Tristan Vizcaino in camp and he’s been a revelation.
After missing his first extra point in his career he has been perfect, making 19 extra points, and breaking the rookie kicking record for most consecutive field goals made with 19 this season.
The Cowboys look to have found themselves their kicker of the future with a strong enough leg to make field goals from well over 50 yards and the ability to kick the ball out of the endzone. Both take pressure off the offense allowing them to settle for field goals and not having to keep the offense on the field and risk turning the ball over on downs and giving their defense the ability to consistently set up shop on the opposing team's side of the field.
Great rookie find for the Cowboys.
