Former Cowboys TE Peyton Hendershot is already causing drama as a member of the Chiefs

There's always a connection.

You may have noticed that neither team that played in last night's Ravens-Chiefs regular season opener was the Dallas Cowboys. For most teams, that would mean a quiet night spent blissfully distanced drama.

The Cowboys aren't most teams, though, and so it should come as no surprise to anyone that they found themselves (kinda) in the middle of some juicy postgame beef.

More specifically, former Cowboys tight end Peyton Hendershot found himself in some juicy postgame beef. While speaking to reporters after their 27-20 loss on Thursday night, Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith had some very dramatic things to say about Hendershot — who plays for the Chiefs now — after the two got in each other's faces on the sideline during the 4th quarter.

It's everything you could want from a press conference moment: it comes up seemingly out of nowhere, is egged on by weird reporter questions, and ends with an empty threat said ominously.

Peyton Hendershot and Roquan Smith are probably not going to hang out this offseason

After Patrick Mahomes was run down out of bounds and Smith delivered a late hit, Hendershot got in his face to make a point about standing up for his quarterback. The best part about it was that Hendershot wasn’t even dressed, so he was ready to throw down against a Smith in full uniform.

That’s the Dallas Cowboys grit still coursing through his veins.

Smith wasn’t impressed, though, and popped off about Hendershot after the game. While nothing happened in the moment, he sent a message that things would end differently the next time.

"He flopped," Smith said in his postgame press conference. "But whoever 88 is, I don't know who he is, but he better watch himself. He did a little slick push. Whoever number 88 is, I have no idea who he is, but I'll see him when I see him."

When you rewatch the video, there's very clearly someone on the sideline who pushes Smith after the play is over, so you can see why he's mad. The fun twist here is that said person is not actually wearing any sort of helmet or pads or uniform. And that person isn't wearing any of those because he's inactive, which means that inactive tight end Peyton Hendershot is trying to get into it with a fully-padded Roquan Smith.

Or maybe this is the start of Roquan Smith vs Peyton Hendershot, the AFC's next great rivalry-within-the-rivalry. We'll find out in January I guess.
