Cowboys fans are as pessimistic as ever for 2024 season in recent survey
The Dallas Cowboys are coming off three straight seasons with a 12-5 record and have won the NFC East in two of those three seasons. Be that as it may, the Cowboys have exited the playoffs with a whimper all three years and that's reflected on the fanbase's mood entering the 2024 campaign.
According to a survey from The Athletic, Cowboys fans are the third-most pessimistic fan base heading into the 2024 regular season. The article includes comments from optimistic and pessimistic fans and we were only provided with one optimistic Cowboys fans' take as opposed to three pessimistic fans' comments.
Eric is an optimist Cowboys fan, stating that he believes Dak Prescott will ball out during his contract year. He also has faith because he thinks Mike Zimmer can get the most out of Micah Parsons, which would help the defense thrive.
As for the pessimists, the theme is that this was a difficult offseason for the 'Boys. Ryan points to contract distractions being the culprit of why this team doesn't have what it takes this year while also noting that the NFC East title curse is something to watch out for. For those who aren't aware of the NFC East title curse, the same team has not won the division since the Philadelphia Eagles did it in 2003 and 2004.
Nikhil also doesn't believe in the Cowboys' chances in 2024 and blames the team not strengthing the roster in the offseason. Bryce is also a pessimist and states that "As long as the Jones family is in charge, the team is toxic and there is no hope."
Cowboys fans aren't buying into any sort of hype this season
While the Cowboys have been able to win games and make it to the playoffs over the past three years, that's where the success stops. They've yet to reach the NFC Championship Game during the Dak Prescott era and haven't been to the NFC title game overall since the 1995 season when they won the Super Bowl.
It's not shocking that the fan base would have these negative thoughts entering the season because they've seen where hype gets the team -- Nowhere. Maybe this is their way of coping with what they perceive to be another disappointing season or maybe the fanbase truly doesn't believe in Mike McCarthy's abilities to get this team further in the postseason.
Let's hope that the pessimistic fans are wrong and that the Cowboys go on to shock the NFL world and make a Super Bowl run this year.
