Early Cowboys 53-man roster prediction following 2024 NFL Draft
By Randy Gurzi
Cornerback (6)
Trevon Diggs
DaRon Bland
Jourdan Lewis
Caelen Carson
C.J. Goodwin
Eric Scott, Jr.
After letting Stephon Gilmore walk, the Cowboys’ secondary doesn’t have the same star power they started 2023 with. They do at least have Trevon Diggs returning from his torn ACL and DaRon Bland is a rising star who picks off the pass at an incredible rate.
Jourdan Lewis was retained and he performed well in the slot last year — especially down the stretch. Caelen Carson and Eric Scott, Jr. are their development players whereas C.J. Goodwin is there for his special team’s skill.
Safety (4)
Malik Hooker
Donovan Wilson
Juanyeh Thomas
Israel Mukuamu
We go slightly thin at safety since Markquese Bell is on the roster and is a bit of a hybrid. The Cowboys will use Malik Hooker and Donovan Wilson once again while Juanyeh Thomas is the primary reserve. Israel Mukuamu has been solid in the slot but might only be needed there if Jourdan Lewis were to suffer an injury.
Specialists (3)
Brandon Aubrey, K
Bryan Anger, P
Trent Sieg, LS
Brandon Aubrey had a debut season to remember, even if he had a few misses at the end of the year. He still hit 36-of-38 field goals and 49-of-52 extra points. Bryan Anger returns as well after once again being one of the top punters in football. Trent Sieg was the team’s first signing this offseason and that led to a lot of jokes about their long snapper. Despite that, he’s solid and will hold down the job once again.
