Very few players on the Dallas Cowboys entered training camp under a bigger spotlight than first-round pick Tyler Guyton. Given the enormous task of replacing future Hall of Famer Tyron Smith, Guyton entered camp under arguably the biggest spotlight of any player on the roster.

With the physicality ramped up in Oxnard now that the pads have come on, Guyon has surprisingly been among the Cowboys' most impressive players. His first day of action featured multiple wins against Micah Parsons. The All-Pro pulled out all the stops, but he couldn't find a way around the No. 29 overall pick.

Parsons and others will get the best of Guyton over the course of camp, but the Cowboys couldn't have asked for a better start from the rookie. The impressive start saw Guyton line up with the first-team offense in Thursday's mock game.

It's hard to speak more highly of the Guyton selection, but it looks even more genius following an update on one of Dallas' former draft crushes.

Tyler Guyton making Cowboys look genius after update on Packers OL Jordan Morgan

The Cowboys were widely linked to Arizona tackle Jordan Morgan before the draft. Team owner Jerry Jones revealed post-draft that Morgan was one of the four prospects that Dallas "coveted" with the No. 24 pick before they moved back to pick 29.

Drafted No. 25 overall by the Packers, Morgan has hardly seen any time at right tackle in training camp. Kadeem Telfort and Andre Dillard have gotten the RT reps with projected starter Zach Tom out indefinitely with a pectoral injury. Despite that, Morgan has been practicing at right guard. Keep in mind that Morgan played over 2,100 snaps at left tackle at Arizona.

Tom's absence is the perfect opportunity for Morgan to work out the kinks at tackle. He has the versatility to kick outside, but it's become clear that the Packers plan all along was to shoehorn Morgan at guard.

Imagine the reaction if the Cowboys drafted Morgan only to discover that guard is his best position. They would have a logjam at the position and likely have to push Tyler Smith out to left tackle after he was an All-Pro at left guard in year two. It would change the entire complexion of the offensive line.

Thankfully, Guyton is well on his way to leapfrogging Chuma Edoga for the starting left tackle job. Even better is the fact the Cowboys were also able to draft Cooper Beebe No. 73 overall thanks to the trade-back. Beebe is widely expected to start at center as a rookie.

Morgan wasn't a 30 visit with the Cowboys, so perhaps the front office and scouting department realized early on in the draft process he wasn't cut out to start at tackle in the NFL. However, the fact that Dallas "coveted" him shows they tip-toed around disaster and landed on a potential gem in Guyton.
