It'd be silly to say that Dallas Cowboys fans know better than the front office. At the end of the day, they have an excellent eye for talent and are one of the best drafting teams in the NFL. With that said, there have been countless instances over the years in which Dallas would have been better off had Jerry Jones listened to fans.

It was Cowboys fans who urged the team to sign J.K. Dobbins in free agency. Jones and Mike McCarthy wanted Ezekiel Elliott.

The lifeblood of the Chargers' offense, Dobbins is now the league's leading rusher both in terms of rushing yards and yards per carry. Meanwhile, Elliott has yet to force a missed tackle and he is among six qualified rushers who have yet to record a run of 10 or more yards this season.

Through two weeks, the Cowboys' running game has been one of the worst in the NFL. Both Elliott and Rico Dowdle rank bottom-10 in rushing yards over expected. According to the latest buzz, Dallas could lean on an obvious possible solution for their Week 3 game against the Ravens.

Cowboys rumors: Dallas mulling promoting Dalvin Cook from practice squad

ESPN's Dan Graziano reported that Dalvin Cook is a candidate to get promoted from the practice squad for Sunday's game.

"The Cowboys' run game is a problem and they know they need to get more out of it," writes Graziano. "They like the way Dalvin Cook has looked since they signed him to the practice squad, and they haven't ruled out the possibility of activating him to the roster if they don't get more production out of the Ezekiel Elliott/Rico Dowdle tandem at some point."

"At some point" is a very telling tidbit from Graziano. It doesn't confirm that Cook will get elevated for Week 3. That echoes what Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy have told the media.

Jones told 105.3 The Fan that he doesn't "see a change" that would involve Cook this week. McCarthy said that the Cowboys' running backs need more touches before the coaching staff can truly access the room of Elliott, Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn.

Game script did not do Dallas any favors against the Saints and the team faced a stout Browns rushing defense in Week 1. Regardless, to the naked eye it is obvious that the running game lacks juice and explosiveness.

Dowdle has been fine, but Elliott is a snail in the open field and isn't even picking up yards after contact (his 34 yards after contact is third-worst among RBs, per PFF). Deuce Vaughn is not an NFL running back. It would make little sense to leave Cook on the practice squad for another week.

The offensive line is still building continuity, but the struggles of the Cowboys' rushing attack boil down to a talent issue. Cook should not be viewed as the ultimate elixir, but what else does the team have to lose?
