Cowboys must forget about Saquon Barkley after contract projection

The Cowboys running back room could look entirely different in 2024. It's possible both Tony Pollard and Rico Dowdle don't return. The duo combined for 343 carries last season, which represented 92.45% of the carries from Dallas' backfield.

Many analysts have pointed to Saquon Barkley as a free agent the Cowboys should target. It's unlikely the Giants retain Barkley -- GM Joe Schoen all but confirmed that at the Combine -- which would allow Jerry Jones a free run at the two-time Pro Bowler.

If Pro Football Focus' projection of Barkley's contract is anything close to accurate, though, the Cowboys should steer clear of the former No. 2 overall pick. PFF expects Barkley to sign for $36.8 million over three years ($12.1 million per year) with $20.1 million guaranteed.

That would make Barkley the fourth-highest paid RB in terms of annual average value. In other words, Dallas would repeat their Ezekiel Elliott nightmare from yesteryear. Signing Barkley is a fun idea, but the Cowboys must forget all about the star back in light of this projection.

Regardless of whether they sign Barkley or not, Cowboys fans can win $150 this week with a few easy steps. Click this link and sign up for FanDuel, then deposit $10 into your account and make a $5 wager on the biggest favorite you can find. If that $5 bet wins, you get $150 in bonus bets. That's why we want you to bet on a big favorite, like LeBron James to score more than 5 points in a game, because if the bet wins, you win.
