Cowboys cut Martavis Bryant after signing La'el Collins to practice squad
The Cowboys reuniting with La'el Collins (and Damien Wilson) will do a lot to offset the frustration stemming from missing on Cook.
Collins started as left guard in his first stint with the Cowboys before moving to right tackle. He worked at left guard in practice on Thursday and he told reporters that VP of Player Personnel Will McClay called him on Sunday, right after starting LG Tyler Smith tore his plantar fascia. A possible sign that Collins could start at left guard against the Commanders on Sunday.
Collins is willing to play anywhere. He just wants to help Dallas win.
“I’ll play fullback, I don’t care. I’m just happy to be here and I just want to help these guys win. … There are a lot of great things that this team has to offer. You can feel it when you walk in this building. This is the best my body has felt in a long time. I really feel like this is the reset button that’s gonna help prolong my career.”
Adding Collins to the practice squad came at a cost, however, as the Cowboys released Martavis Bryant. In addition to Collins and Wilson, Dallas signed WR Racey McMath and RB SaRodorick Thompson to the practice squad.
Dreams of Bryant carving out a role in 2023 are over, but this might not be the last we've seen of Bryant with the Cowboys. He reportedly was one of the "toughest cuts" and even earned practice squad player of the week honors earlier this season. Not only that, but Dallas hopes to bring him back next year.
