Cowboys linked to Giants RB Saquon Barkley before free agency
Could the Cowboys make a splash at running back in free agency? Amid reports that Tony Pollard would be willing to take a hometown discount to return to Dallas, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post listed America's Team as a potential landing spot for Saquon Barkley.
"Barkley is the perfect fit for what is asked of a dual-threat running back in head coach Mike McCarthy’s offense. Sensing his mortality, owner Jerry Jones is going “all-in” to make a deep playoff run and wouldn’t mind stealing the face of a rival franchise. Running behind this offensive line would spoil Barkley."
Couple things. Jerry Jones has walked back his all-in promise and the Cowboys offensive line is currently in flux. Left tackle Tyron Smith is expected to leave in free agency and center Tyler Biadasz is unlikely to be re-signed.
The team struggled to block for Pollard last year. Signing Barkley, who's projected to land the biggest contract in a rich RB free agent class this offseason, wouldn't be a smart move. Especially when a younger and more durable Pollard could be signed for much less.
Still, Barkley's market will be something to watch.
