Dallas Cowboys training camp is a little over three weeks away, and fans can hardly contain their excitement ... mostly because the team is on summer break and the Cowboys news cycle has been dormant for multiple weeks.

The hope is Dallas will get an extension or two done before camp. Dak Prescott should be the first order of business given an extension would lower his $59 million cap hit, and his price tag will continue to soar as other QBs put pen to paper.

Behind Prescott, CeeDee Lamb should be the front office's next priority. Fans actually think Lamb should be prioritized over QB1.

In a recent survey posed by The Athletic, Lamb received 50.3% of the vote in a poll about which player fans want to get signed first. For context, Lamb's share was over 30% greater than the next player (Trevon Diggs at 20.2%), while Prescott received 19.5% of the vote.

We've hardly heard a peep about Lamb's contract talks, but the ever-reliable Jane Slater of NFL Network provided an update this week.

Cowboys, CeeDee Lamb talking contract extension before training camp

Here's what Slater said on "NFL Total Access."

""It's my understanding, according to a front office source that they [the Cowboys and Lamb] are talking, but nothing is imminent yet . . . I can see this happening a little bit closer to training camp . . . He [Lamb] told us at mandatory minicamp that he didn't see himself wearing any other one (jersey). So it does feel like this is moving in a positive direction." "

Now that's what we like to hear!

We all know that Jerry Jones would love to have something newsworthy to talk about when he addresses the media at camp in Oxnard. Getting one of the faces of the franchise, a fan favorite and one of the 10 best WRs in the league signed to a big extension would be a perfect jumping off point for the Cowboys owner.

It's anyone's guess if a deal will get done before camp, but all indicators are point toward Lamb signing a long-term contract with the Cowboys this offseason after the team exercised his fifth-year option earlier this offseason.

In other Cowboys news, Leighton Vander Esch and his wife Madalynn announced on Instagram that they're set to welcome a baby into the world in January of 2024. The gender of the baby remains a secret so stay tuned for a potential exciting reveal.

A great offseason for the Vander Esch's has reached even greater heights. Congratulations to the happy couple on this awesome milestone and best of luck to Vander Esch as he embarks on his sixth season with the Cowboys after re-signed with the team on a two-year, $8 million deal as a free agent this offseason.
