Cowboys inactives list for Week 2 game against Saints
By Jerry Trotta
The Dallas Cowboys made a statement in Week 1 by clobbering the Cleveland Browns on the road. Following that performance, they are favored heavily for Sunday's home-opener against the New Orleans Saints, who bulldozed the lowly Panthers by 37 points last week.
The Cowboys have fared well as heavy home favorites in the Dak Prescott era. Not only is their record impeccable, but they usually win big. Having said that, fans will just settle for a win against a talented Saints team.
Dallas caught a break in Week 1 as the Browns were without their starting tackles Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin. Typically on the other side of the luck pendulum, Mike McCarthy's group has once again run into some good fortune on the injury front.
While the Cowboys are dealing with some injuries of their own, the Saints' injuries might be too debilitating to overcome.
Cowboys inactives:
- Jake Ferguson
- Trey Lance
- John Stephens Jr.
- Ryan Flournoy
- Andrew Booth
- Buddy Johnson
- Matt Waletzko
Jake Ferguson headlines the Cowboys' inactives this week after he was ruled out by the Cowboys on Saturday Ferguson was extremely fortunate to avoid a serious knee injury in the Week 1 win.
While he worked hard to get cleared for Sunday, Dallas made the right call by holding him out. Ferguson is simply too important to the offense to risk aggravating the injury that could jeopardize his long-term health.
Elsewhere, defensive end Marshawn Kneeland is good to go. Kneeland popped up on the injury report with a calf injury. He was upgraded to limited on Thursday and Friday after a DNP on Wednesday. The 2024 second-round pick logged six pressures in his NFL debut last Sunday.
It also shouldn't come as a surprise that Trey Lance is inactive. He is the team's emergency third-string quarterback.
Saints inactives:
- Marshon Lattimore
- Spencer Rattler
- A.T. Perry
- Khalen Saunders
- Jaylan Ford
- D’Marco Jackson
- Dallin Holker
About the Cowboys running into more luck, the Saints will be down standout cornerback Marshon Lattimore, a four-time Pro Bowler. However, starting left tackle Taliese Fuaga, who was drafted with the No. 14 overall pick this year, will play after he was limited in practice this week with a back injury.
Lattimore plays primarily on the outside relative to the slot, but his absence will create more opportunities for CeeDee Lamb, who caught seven passes for 89 yards on 13 targets the last time these teams met in 2021. Look for Lamb to put together an All-Pro performance.
