Safety (5):

Jayron Kearse
Malik Hooker
Donovan Wilson
Israel Mukuamu
Markquese Bell

Safety is quite possibly one of the deepest positions on this roster. The Cowboys have six players who could make the cut — so let's start with the locks.

Jayron Kearse is one of the vocal leaders of the defense and can be moved around like a Swiss Army Knife. Donovan Wilson can do the same and is a beast when he attacks the quarterback on the blitz. Malik Hooker is the deep safety and was rewarded with a contract extension recently.

On the bench, anything can happen. Israel Mukuamu feels like he should be a lock especially since he can play slot corner. That means Marquese Bell and Juanyeh Thomas are fighting for the final spot — assuming they keep five. This is a coin flip but Bell was on the active roster for five games in 2022, so he's the predicted winner. But it wouldn't be a shock if they kept Thomas.

Specialists (3):

Brandon Aubrey
Bryan Anger
Trent Sieg

An unknown kicker takes over in 2023 with Brandon Aubrey winning the job. Dallas could have gone for a veteran such as Mason Crosby or Robbie Gould but decided to trust the USFL standout. Time will tell if they made the right call but he's seemed fine in the preseason even with a miss from 59 on Saturday (he ended up hitting one from the same distance later).

Bryan Anger returns as the punter and he's one of the best in the business. He's as steady as they come and can be a weapon when it comes to field position.

Former Las Vegas long snapper Trent Sieg is in Dallas now and has no competition for his job.
