The Dallas Cowboys have taken their foot of the gas against the Cleveland Browns and fans are starting to sweat a little. After taking a 27-3 lead into halftime, Dallas' offense has gone stagnant. Luckily, Mike Zimmer's defense has been up to the challenge.

The Cowboys should win comfortably as long as the offense wakes up, but the positive vibes vanished in one fell swoop after budding tight end Jake Ferguson suffered a scary-looking injury in the third quarter.

Ferguson's left foot got pinned underneath a Browns defender as the tackle was made. His left foot got bent awkwardly and was in visible pain before he hobbled to the sideline. It initially looked like an ankle injury, but the 2023 Pro Bowler came up clutching his knee, which is never a good sign.

Ferguson was escorted straight to the locker room.

The video shows Ferguson walking to the locker room under his own power. While it's encouraging that Ferguson wasn't carted off, walking off does not mean he is in the clear. There have been numerous cases over the years of players who were diagnosed with a major injury despite hardly walking with a limp.

The real sign for optimism is that Ferguson wasn't immediately ruled out. At the time of this writing, Ferguson is questionable to return. Players getting ruled out within minutes of suffering an injury is typically a bad omen.

It wasn't a dirty tackle by any stretch of the imagination, but the defender dove at Ferguson's lower leg Because his ankle got pinned underneath, Ferguson wasn't able to brace his fall and his knee had an awkward landing. You can watch a clip of the injury behind this link.

A fourth-round pick in 2022, Ferguson announced himself as one of the best young tight ends in the game in only his second season. He caught 71 passes for 765 yards and five touchdowns. He ranked top 10 across the board in every category and was named as a Pro Bowl alternate.

Beyond being a dynamic playmaker, Ferguson has a contagious personality off the field and his bulldog attitude on the field has made him a popular player among Cowboys fans.

As we wait for an update on Ferguson, Cowboys fans will hope and pray it's nothing serious. He's invaluable to the offense. A potential spell on the sidelines would force Luke Schoonmaker, John Stephens Jr. and undrafted rookie Brevyn Spann-Ford into bigger roles.
