Suffice it to say that Dallas Cowboys fans did not expect a track meet against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. As of this writing, there have been three touchdowns of 50 yards or longer. Two of those have come from the bad guys as Mike Zimmer's defense has had zero answers for Gary Kubiak's offense.

It is possible that Dallas' Week 1 beatdown of the Browns boiled down to Deshaun Watson's awful quarterback play. Thus far, New Orleans has schemed Micah Parsons out of the game. Everything they are doing is an effort to limit Parsons' ability on the game.

Zimmer's defenses have historically started slow because his system is so complex and multiple. It's coming true because Derek Carr is not an awful QB when he has a clean pocket.

Zimmer will have to go back to the drawing board at halftime. It may be too little, too late at that point as the Saints have now scored their fourth touchdown in as many possessions. You know what could help the defense, though? Having its best player from Week 1 on the field.

In an utterly baffling development at AT&T Stadium, DeMarvion Overshown barely saw the field in the first half. It wasn't until late in the second quarter that Overshown featured in a three-down capacity.

Cowboys' Mike Zimmer baffling benched DeMarvion Overshown in Week 2 vs. Saints

It did not take long for Overshown to make his presence felt as he made a strong open-field tackle to limit the Saints to a two-yard gain. Save a few stops against the run, it was arguably the Cowboys' best defensive play in the first half.

The Saints' outside run scheme and crossing patterns have given Zimmer's defense chasing ghosts. Why did Zimmer think it was a good idea to not have Overshown's speed and athleticism on the field?

Overshown obviously wasn't going to start over Eric Kendricks, who played out of his mind last week, but Damone Clark missed a tackle early on Sunday and has reverted back to his old ways of plugging the wrong gaps and being hesitant to get downfield.

Not only is Overshown more athletic and physical than Clark, but he is more instinctual. Zimmer deployed him as a spy on Deshaun Watson in Week 1. While Derek Carr is immobile as they come at the QB position, Overshown's speed could have helped while Alvin Kamara ran roughshod on Zimmer's defense in the first half.

Unless the Cowboys are managing Overshown's workload post-ACL surgery, it is indefensible that he was effectively benched to start Sunday's game after he was arguably the team's best player against the Browns.
