The Dallas Cowboys simply could not justify exiting the 2023 NFL Draft without drafting a running back after they released Ezekiel Elliott. It took until the sixth round -- much to the chagrin of fans -- but any and all frustration was nixed when Deuce Vaughn's name was called.

There was legit concern that Vaughn wouldn't get drafted due to his stature. Though an electric playmaker at Kansas State, teams had reservations about Vaughn's stocky 5-foot-5, 179-pound frame. With seemingly every notable RB off the board, the Cowboys ended the fan favorite's slide at No. 212 overall.

Vaughn is no stranger to the Cowboys' franchise, of course, as his father Chris Vaughn is the team's assisant director of college scouting.

This had all the makings to be a special moment between father and son and it managed to exceeded our wildest expectations.

Try watching this without shedding a tear.

Watch Chris Vaughn's emotional reaction to the Cowboys drafting his son Deuce Vaughn

An unforgettable moment between father and son. The Cowboys' war room erupted in cheers, but there was no consoling Chris Vaughn, who had become overcome with emotion after helping make the call on Saturday.

The former Wildcat is a welcome addition to the Cowboys roster after he finished his career as the Big 12's leader in all-purpose yards. In 2022, he totaled 1,558 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 5.3 yards per carry. He also pitched in as a receiver, catching 42 passes for 378 yards and an additional three scores.

Of course, Vaughn will have to earn his spot on the 53-man roster. Though the Cowboys are thin at running back behind incumbent starter Tony Pollard, they signed Ronald Jones in free agency and still have talented former undrafted free agents Rico Dowdle and Malik Davis in the mix as well.

We'll cross that bridge when the time comes, though. For now, this moment is all about the Vaughn's sharing a moment that will last a lifetime.
