Stop me if you've heard this before this season, but Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys offense was cooking against the Philadelphia Eagles until Michael Gallup got involved.

With the Cowboys driving near midfield near the end of the first half, Gallup dropped an easy pitch and catch on 3rd and 3. To add insult to injury, Gallup had room to run after the catch had he simply looked the ball into his gloves.

Brandon Aubrey nailed a 51-yard field goal to give the Cowboys a 17-14 lead, but Prescott had the defense on its heels.

He couldn't be stopped on third and fourth down to start the game and had Dallas poised to score a huge touchdown to take a potential 21-14 lead into halftime with the Eagles getting the ball to start the third quarter.

Gallup had other plans and fans want the WR benched yesterday.

Cowboys fans want Michael Gallup benched after crucial drop vs Eagles

The words of a fan base that has seen enough of Gallup in a Cowboys uniform. That won't happen until after the season at the earliest due to his contract. Assuming Dallas' front office also recognizes Gallup's shocking decline -- Gallup's snap share last week suggests it has -- he won't be back on the team in 2024.

In the meantime, though, No. 13 shouldn't see the field again on Sunday. How could he? Third down catches don't come easier than this:

A confident Gallup would have snatched that ball out of the air and picked up another handful of yards after the catch. Did he hear footsteps of the oncoming Eagles defender? Did he simply not look the ball into his hands? Whatever the case, this drop could be a game-defining moment when all is said and done.

Things aren't bouncing the Cowboys way so far, and yet they still lead. They've forced two Eagles fumbles, but Philly fell on both of them. Very little has separated the rivals thus far. A drop like this could come back to haunt Dallas.

Regardless, Cowboys Nation is right. Gallup needs to ride the bench for the rest of this one.
