Cowboys 7-round 2024 mock draft: Reloading the offense for Super Bowl run
By Reid Hanson
Stop me if this sounds familiar: the Dallas Cowboys are coming off a 12-win season in which their offense posted top-5 numbers, their QB posted an MVP-level season, and the entire offense pulled a disappearing act in some of the season’s biggest games.
For as good as the offense looked most weeks, it essentially failed the team in losses to San Francisco, Arizona, Buffalo and Green Bay. While near equal blame can be given to Dallas’ defense in these losses, it was clear the offense wasn’t as resilient as it needed to be for the Cowboys to have sustained success in the postseason.
This mock draft exercise will focus on reloading the offense. It’s done under the expectation certain things will be done in free agency to build up the defense, like adding a new high-end veteran DT, a new CB3, and a rotational LB. Johnathan Hankins will re-sign to offer depth, while Stephon Gillmore and Jayron Kearse will be allowed to leave.
Certain losses on offense are also expected in this exercise. Tyler Biadasz, Tony Pollard and Michael Gallup will be gone. The Cowboys will retain Brandin Cooks for his last year under contract and re-sign Tyron Smith to a one-year deal.
This Cowboys 7-round mock draft won’t be exclusively offense but will lean heavily in offenses favor early and often. Assisting in this will be the NFL Mock Draft Database simulator since it has the updated picks and projections. We looked at actual coach’s film in most cases and also consulted various reputable scouting reports.
